Helping Grimsby and Cleethorpes Babies Build Water Confidence from the Very Beginning

Bath Baby Bubbles was created from something I noticed in my work as a baby and toddler swimming teacher. There can be a real gap between those early newborn weeks and starting swimming lessons at the pool. Babies aren't always ready for the noise, lights and wider environment of a swimming pool, but that doesn't mean they can't start developing a positive relationship with water.

I wanted to create a gentle first step. Bath Baby Bubbles gives babies the opportunity to experience warm water from around four weeks old, in a calm and relaxed environment where they can take things at their own pace.

Early water confidence is at the heart of every session. We explore gentle holds and movements, water around the body and head, and simple activities that help babies become familiar and comfortable with being in water. As a swimming teacher, I've seen the difference this can make when babies who have attended Bath Baby Bubbles later come into the pool. They can be noticeably more settled, happy and confident in the water, which is lovely to see.

But Bath Baby Bubbles isn't about trying to make a tiny baby swim. It's about connection.

The sessions are completely baby-led. We watch their little cues, follow their lead and give them time to pause when they need to. Sometimes they want to explore, sometimes they just want to cuddle. There is no pressure to do anything.

Nurturing touch is a big part of the experience too. Through gentle touch, holds and mindful movements, mums and babies have time to slow down and really connect with each other. I want mums to feel that they can come into the class, switch off from everything else for a little while and simply enjoy their baby. It's a calm, non-judgemental space where there is no expectation of having a β€œperfect” baby or getting everything right.

We also use gentle sensory play in the bath, introducing different sensations slowly and simply. It's very much a β€˜less is more’ approach - we're not trying to fill the session with lots of stimulation. Babies can watch, reach, listen, feel and explore, and we follow their curiosity.

For me, that's what makes Bath Baby Bubbles so special. It's about giving babies those lovely first experiences with water, while giving mums time to bond, learn their baby's cues and enjoy being together.
